I was looking for something my four year old could use with help as he navigated learning more about our world. This was just as I expected. The pictures are great and offer great facts about each continent. I wish there was more information about Antarctica but we can go to the Internet for that. Overall my expectations were met as we use this daily he always asks to read through it with us.

I am pleased with the book so far. The layout is good and it is fairly consistent with standard atlases as far as content only it is presented with a younger audience in mind. It will be a good book for my children. The only complaint I have is that it came obviously damaged. I assumed at first something happened during shipping but the package it came in was not damaged. Basically there are about 5 deep gashes in the front cover going about 45 pages deep. The package was not affected meaning it happened before it was shipped. This is really annoying. The book gets 5 stars and the poor quality control gets 2 😕

While I do like this book. I was disappointed in that there are no countries covered. It just goes over the continents. I bought a geography curriculum that requires an Atlas that discusses the countries as well.

I replaced a geography workbook which my 10-year old daughter hated with this book which she enjoys very much. She loves reading the information as well as looking at the maps very much. I used an alternate project last week and she was very disappointed to not get to read this book too.

Great world atlas for elementary and middle school kids. Has a lot of awesome information. It is lacking a bit as a high-school resource but can still be helpful and informative to them too. Great photos.

Perfect first atlas with nice factual information and great graphics. Very appealing to my 7-year old who is fascinated with geography at the moment.

Not suitable for six year old at all

We home school our 9 year old grand daughter. Questions often come up in social studies, science and literature that require finding a location on the map and learning more about it. This atlas has wonderful maps and a wealth of information to support learning about our world.

A good translation is essential to understanding them, and these translations are good.Compare the first lines of the Agamemnon from the older Lattimore version published by the University of Chicago:"I ask the gods some respite from the weariness of this watchtime measured by years I lie awake elbowed upon the Atriedaes' roof dogwise to mark the grand processionals of all the stars of night burdened with winter and again with heat for men. dynasties in their shining blazoned on the air, these stars, upon their wane and when the rest arise."with the same lines from that of Alan Shapiro in this Oxford University Press volume:"I beg the gods to deliver me at last from this hard watch I've kept now for a year upon the palace roof of the Atreidae, dog-like, snout to paws, night after long night, studying the congress of the stars, the unignorable bright potentates that bring down through the night sky to us here below, the summer now, and now the winter, eternal even as they wane and rise."I don't know which version is more faithful to the original, although I understand that Ancient Athenian Greek is so different from Modern English that any attempt at translation is highly problematic, some would even say impossible. Still, most of us aren't going to learn Ancient Greek, so if we are to read these plays at all we need translations, approximate as they may be. The best a translator may be able do is to render the original into a version that is understandable and can be enjoyed by the educated reader. Shapiro's Oxford version is quite clear and understandable Modern English poetry, and I have enjoyed reading it, which was definitely NOT the case with Lattimore's.The copious end notes in this edition are also quite helpful.epops

The Oresteia is one the oldest tragedies we have. It is, of course, foolish to award this book anything less than five stars as it is one of Western Civilization's gems. This trilogy of plays deals with the murder of Agamemnon, the revenge by his son Orestes, and then Orestes' persecution and trial by the Erinyes: complex figures who can be thought of as personified curses.The major theme that spans across all three plays is the long arc of justice and the misfortune that befalls the household of anyone who violates the laws of the gods. Agamemnon's family is surely a cursed one, as generation after generation kill each other in retribution for the previous one's crimes.Another idea that I found interesting in the last play was Orestes' challenge of the Erinyes' sense of justice- that he acted justice in enacting revenge and that he should be exempt from the laws which have hitherto governed all of mankind. On what justification can mankind rebuke the gods and their doctrines? If the gods have a role in supporting society, as the Erinyes say they do, on what justification can we challenge the laws of our state when we know we've violated them?This particular edition of The Oresteia, the red one translated by Hugh Lloyd-Jones, is remarkable. There are extensive notes on each of the pages which are scholarly. For instance, they may explain how the ancient Greeks viewed etymology, and why the name "Helen" had a significant meaning to the Greeks because the root of "Helen" means destruction and because of Helen's responsibility for all of the destruction of the Trojan War. The notes will often explain to the reader the difference of the way Greeks viewed suffering, and how modern Christianity should not be used in interpreting passages to mean that suffering causes purifying. Rather, the suffering is merely a teacher that forces the recipient of understand his wrongdoing. The notes will also indicate where the original Greek text is either incomplete or corrupt.Taken as a whole, the notes comprise about half the length of this book. It can be overwhelming at first, but it allows for serious study. Also, the notes are at the bottom of the pages for easy reference.I highly recommend this copy of The Oresteia, especially if you're looking to return to this book many times over the course of your lifetime.

Avoid this travesty like the plague.Were Aeschylus alive, he'd sue this company for defamation of his poetry, which when performed by professionals (i.e. the like of Paul Scofield or Ian McKellen, or Diana Rigg) mesmerises and horrifies the listener as the complex plot tightens upon the protagonists, reaches its point of no return, and then loosens its grip, lapsing into the utmost simplicity of language.To borrow the gist of Aeschylus' words given to the Watchman: I'll say no more, but the House itself, if it could speak, might speak plainly. A great Ox stands on my tongue.I wish it had stood on theirs!

This book was required for a western literature course. my only complaint is there are no line numbers. it is considered poetry. when referencing for papers the instructor wanted line numbers. i got points off for that. other than that, i prefer the older English terminology and the use of the Greek names. i understand other translations use the roman names. the main thing i like about this version is it doesn't have 4 pages of someone's opinion of what 2 lines mean between each line. the reader is allowed to draw their own conclusions.It was also a nice surprise to find the librivox.org audio recording is the same version. being dyslexic it makes reading easier to hear it simultaneously.

I am listening to this with my 8th grade daughter. We are both finding it much more interesting than we thought we would, and easier to follow than we expected. The different voices make the characters easy to tell apart, and the actors and actresses are all quite good. We especially liked whoever played Cassandra. We were afraid this might be dry and boring, but it is most definitely not. It is full of emotion and is actually captivating.

Here are some of my favorites:' Maul and Ahsoka at Mandalore' Ahsoka’s last interaction with Rex (until Star Wars Rebels reunites them)' Insight into Anakin’s thoughts as “Obi-Wan’s new padawan” approaches Christophsis' Obi-Wan’s solitude – and finding an old friend – on Tatooine' The origin of Ahsoka’s white lightsabers and the codename Fulcrum' Ahsoka’s thoughts about Barriss OffeeMost of the plot of the novel centers on Ahsoka’s life as she maintains a low profile to avoid attention from the Empire. She has to find odd jobs to get by, and tries not to form close relationships with others. Her connection with the Force is weakened. She thinks of the “family” she has lost due to the destruction of the Jedi Order, and searches her feelings to try to discern Anakin’s fate. Readers can feel her loneliness. Ahsoka has always been a jovial, outgoing person, quick to make friends and gain others’ trust. As it turns out, her charisma and leadership qualities have not suffered since the end of The Clone Wars; she continues to draw others to her and gain their trust, despite her efforts to live a simple life. As can be expected, she quickly finds herself at the center of a conflict. Also as can be expected, she must decide between using the Force to save the day, thus exposing herself, and maintaining her anonymity and allowing her new friends to suffer.Overall, E.K. Johnston absolutely matches the feel of The Clone Wars and Star Wars Rebels. Ahsoka does a fantastic job of bridging the gap, though it does not account for the entire time period between Ahsoka leaving the Jedi Order and her first appearance at the end of the first season of the current cartoon series. Perhaps there are more books forthcoming – hopefully also penned by Johnston!Ahsoka is also available as an audiobook narrated by Ashley Eckstein. Eckstein, of course, is the only actor who has ever voiced Ahsoka's character. For what it's worth, I could hear Ashley reading all of Ahsoka's lines in my head when I read the print version. It's unavoidable.Fans of Ahsoka Tano, The Clone Wars, and Star Wars Rebels will devour this book. Highly recommended.

If you are a fan of Star Wars, and especially a fan of Ahsoka, you need to buy this book. Just be prepared, it is not very good. The writing is nothing impressive, and the structure is strange. I think Ahsoka deserved a better written book, the story is simple, but it is sufficient. I really enjoyed the cameos from other Star Wars characters. I did not like the characters introduced just for this book, and felt no real investment for any of them. There were some real weaknesses with this story, but just to know where Ahsoka was between The Clone Wars and Rebels, this book is worth it.

Over time, the attitude eroded, and color covers featured fewer scruffy rockers and more magnificently quaffed celebrities du jour. In short, the covers reflect the drift of RS's focus from music to film, TV, politics, . . . whatever. And still, the "book" is mostly rock 'n' roll. Where else can one see Janet Jackson and Jennifer Anniston naked and Bill Clinton and Woody Allen clothed (good editorial decisions, those), always very well photographed? Buy this for the flash and the history, and ignore anything Pete Townshend or Jann Wenner has to say in it. Fantastic book for a fantastic price!

In the words of Mick Jagger to Rolling Stone, "You set the tone of a magazine by the cover - that's very important". He is correct. From issue #1 of Nov. 1967, John Lennon launches Rolling Stone in war garb and continues to grace more covers with and without the Beatles. "The Complete Covers" is a time machine of photographs (most from acclaimed photographer Annie Leibovitz) reminding us of the issues that we faced and the climate of the music. We can watch our rock heroes get older with us and witness the new birth of music groups over again. Politics are always included at critical time periods and, of course, our more liberal movie stars are here to set another kind of tome for the period. Although ending in 1997 with the cover of 'Women In Rock', you can bet that Rolling Stone gives us another in 2027. Enjoy!

I am disappointed that there are not more street names available. For someone that is not familiar with DC, this map must be used with another city map.

It's more of a schematic than an actual map. It's good to have a real map to go with it.

If you're Irish - or "get" the way the Irish talk (and perhaps think) - you'll probably love this book. It's short. The stories don't really flow, one to the next, but if you're looking for "okay, THAT's strange..." stories, this book delivers several.As a writer, this book seemed hastily thrown together. (That's okay. I've done the same thing, myself, with my own hastily written books. Sometimes, "good enough is good enough.")Editing and segues would help this book, and I'd like a better flow to the stories... perhaps organized by the kind of phenomena, where it is, when it was reported... something more than a hodge-podge of tales (albeit fairly credible).But, for the money, it's a good read. And it's entertaining. If you like Irish myths & legends, or paranormal stories, or even the country itself, give this book a read. You're sure to walk away with at least one memorable tale to share with others.

A delightful booklet about the odd and strange in Ireland. Well researched and written. Many pictures with cultural and historical significance. I especially enjoyed the photographs of the beautiful Ireland country and seashores. The only downside is that the booklet is somewhat short for my taste. I would have loved to read it if it was ten times longer.

Weird is right ! I loved reading this book. So many silly stories and events that I had never heard before.You would like this if you are interested in strange tales of Ireland.

It just what I said above interesting but not really all that weird. Deals mostly with sightings of sea monsters and Madonna's and Saints and things like that after the 1850s. Does relate an episode around 1850 of a sea monster in a lake north of clew bay. First couple of pages are spent with fairies and banshees and witches and things of that nature.

Fun little book to read. It can be completed in a setting. Talks about the fairies and superstitions . Very enjoyable.

Be advised this is a tiny book without page numbers but the information it does contain is interesting.

Interesting

The mysteries & folklore of Ireland are at once intriguing & quite imaginative. One wonders at the origins & veracity of such tales. The Irish are well known story tellers who may well have included these claims in their stories to frighten or entertain their listeners.
