Absolutely positively amazing

This was a fun book I like the way you put other stories with it. I love this book. Hayley

I love Melanie Marks's romance story, but I have to agreed with the other readers that this is a retold story. This story was retold from the original story "High School Boy" and "Kissing". I love the characters Matt and Nicole, but I wish the storyline is a new scenario. It feels wrong for the author to charge $2.99 for repeating a same story, changed the dialogues and changed one or two characters to make it look like a new story. It seems the author did the same things to other story like "Griffin", "His Kiss" and "Mason and Summer". I believe this is Melanie's writing style. I love good romance story, but it feels wrong to pay over and over for the same story.

For me, this story is developing WAY TOO SLOW. It's so obvious that that Matt still likes you Nicole! He MUST have some reasonable explaination for going to the dance with Nina. I'm not even going to list the signs that he still likes Nicole because there is just way too many. And I also think that Nicole is the one at fault. Just because you can't date yet it shouldn't effect other people unless you know that person loves you. Which, of course in this case it is friendship. It did turn out that Matt likes Nicole but there was totally a chance that he didn't, but of course he does and and I knew that from the start cuz it's a love story. But I can't stop thinking that in real life, you can't just get mad at a boy that actually WANTS to date a person that's not you. In good stories you should be able to like the protagonist but in this case, I just think that Nicole is an unreasonable and fustrating person.:(

My 9 year old daughter purchased this book on our tablet and she really enjoyed it. I reviewed it first by skimming through the book, and I didn't see anything that would be inappropriate for her age. She read this book quickly and it kept her interest.

Another super cute story by Melanie Marks. As a school librarian, I always get excited to see a new book from Melanie. The students love her stories and characters. They will be especially excited to hear more about Matt and Nicole. I know when I add a Melanie Marks book to my collection, it will be a favorite amongst the girls. I love it that these middle school books, really are "middle school" books. They don't rush kids to grow up too fast. It is nice for them to read about characters they can relate to and learn from. Thanks Melanie for providing us with great reading material and entertainment.

The book was amazing like every time I wanted to stop reading I couldn't put the book down it ready showed how Matt and Nicole feel about each other and if you want to know how they first met read the slumber party wars the slumber party wars starts off kind of boring but once you get to like the middle of the book it's really good.

I heard Commander Chris Hadfield speaking about this book on Travel with Rick Steves on NPR. I immediately got on my phone, and one click ordered. The book arrived the next day, which was impressive- but that was the only impressive thing regarding this purchase. It is small, and the paper doesn't lend itself well to the images. Based on the experiences Mr. Hadfield was describing, the amazing things he has observed from the ISS- I feel that these photographs are a let down. They look like they could have been taken with a long lens from an airplane. The funny graphics included diminished the impact of the images. I thought for a moment about taking this to my classroom for my fourth graders to enjoy, but decided to return it instead. I never have returned a book before. This is my experience, and after reading 5 star reviews, perhaps I am in a limited minority.

Wow. Have never returned a book before, but there's always a first time, I guess. The image resolution is TERRIBLE. The original photography by astronaut Chris Hadfield was probably fantastic, but the printed images look out of focus. (This could also be an issue from the poor paper quality.) What a pity. This WOULD BE a spectacular book, if its prime assets -- the pictures -- weren't compromised. Perhaps there's a bad printing lot that needs to be sent to the dumpster or sold at fire-sale prices (even then I wouldn't buy). From a major publisher like this, such poor quality control is shocking.

The size and paper quality of this book do not do the images any justice. This book would have been wonderful if this were a large format book with excellent paper and print quality. Sadly, I can only look at the sub par print of these amazing images and imagine what it could have been like..I think this was a cost saving measure, but I hope at some point the publisher considers publishing a special edition without these flaws.

This book is GORGEOUS and interesting and did I mention GORGEOUS? The quality is nice and everyone who's picked it up has spent a lot of time looking through it 'oohing' and 'aaahing' over the pictures and pouring over the captions. We love Chris Hadfield and followed his time on the ISS carefully. This book is very special to us! Thanks Mr. Hadfield for such a quality book. Also, thank you for your donation to the MJF foundation, it means a lot to us!

For the rest of my life, this will be one of my most favorite books ever!And on my birthday, last Thursday, my friend treated me to a movie, which was/is "The Martian" (which was exquisite, by the way), and one of the final end-credits was... CHRIS HADFIELD HIMSELF!!! I applauded out loud.This book makes me cry in the best of ways. Astronaut Hadfield really put his heart and soul into the photographs, and the accompanying text for each of these splendid, mind-blowing photos of our home planet.THIS is the book to give to others as a gift, after you've treated YOURSELF to it.

I bought this book after seeing a video of Chris Hadfield talking about it and thought it would be great. It is a nice book but the quality of the photos wasn't exactly excellent. The photos in the video were much clearer. There is good commentary which makes the book worth the purchase, but the photos could have been better quality. Still a nice book especially for the kids since it's smallish in size.

Every human being who is alive (as I write this) and ever has been has lived on planet Earth, but few of us have ever seen our home from space. Hadfield has, but rather than reporting "just the facts," he shows himself to have an artistic sensibility, and also ushers us into not just his mind's eye, but the vision of his very soul in this small but delightful photographic ode to life on Mother Earth in all its beauty, glory and occasional ugliness. Buy this book if you have the slightest interest in how our home looks from high above.

Thanks to the reviews, I knew what to expect from the book (it is relatively small for a picture book, and simple). But it was beautiful and perfect for what I was looking for. Made an excellent gift.

On a ranch owned by don Ignacio, a spectacular apple tree flourishes under the conscientious care of the foreman, Juan Verdades, who reports daily to the rancher on the condition of his beloved tree. When a fellow rancher, don Arturo, boasts that he can make Juan tell a lie, don Ignacio replies, "I'll bet my ranch against yours that you can't make my foreman lie to me." Gr 2-5-Don Ignacio, a wealthy rancher and owner of the finest apple tree in the area, implicitly trusts his foreman, Juan Valdez. When a friend claims that no employee should be trusted, don Ignacio declares openly that Juan can't tell a lie and in fact has been nicknamed Juan Verdades because of his honesty. Don Arturo then bets his entire ranch that he can get the man to tell a lie. Beautiful Araceli, don Arturo's daughter, schemes with her father to win the wager. When Juan falls in love with her, she asks him to bring her all the fruit from the prized tree. The man does as she asks but must then face his employer. The clever conclusion proves just how truthful Juan is. Hayes's retelling of this tale is masterful and he manages to introduce several Spanish words without disturbing the flow of the text. The full-page paintings capture a distinct landscape and costume and convey the quiet drama of the story. Their dark jewel tones lend a brooding atmosphere, in keeping with the midsection of the tale. Great story and a very helpful tool when teaching theme.

With the ending never in doubt (check out the subtitle), the story drags on 4-5 pages too long, like a familiar joke burdened with too many details. Author Joe Hayes states in his closing note that he has "given the tale a more literary treatment than I usually do." The result is a story better suited for older readers (ages 7-10) than for a read-aloud bedtime book.As negative as that sounds, I actually like Hayes' book and his effort to fill out this adaptation of "The Faithful Servant." Each character's decisions and the solemn consequences are richly detailed in both the narrative and artist Joseph Daniel Fieldler's earthy, full-page paintings.My sons (ages 8 and 6) would have enjoyed the suspense, not knowing if Juan Verdades would be faithful to his employer, don Ignacio. However, the first words on the inside dust jacket flap are "Juan Verdades is an honest man." Combined with the unnecessary subtitle it was difficult to build suspense. There are a couple twists along the way but I won't spoil these. The rewards for Juan's honesty far exceed expectations.After the first reading to my sons, we discussed the other choices Juan could have made and the likely consequences of those actions. The conversation helped reinforce the book's valuable moral lesson.Rating: Four stars.

Juan Verdades is the foreman on a ranch. The owner of the ranch places a bet with another rancher that Verdades will never lie. He places the whole ranch on the line. The other rancher then sends his daughter to live with the first rancher and beguile Juan. The daughter succeeds in getting Juan to give her the apples from the owner's favorite tree. When Juan is called on the carpet in front of the two owners and questioned about where the apples went, he says that a fool picked them, and admits that he was that fool. Juan is eventually rewarded for his honesty by getting a ranch and the beguiling daughter. In addition to the moral lessons about truth and gambling, there is also some potential for learning about the life of yesteryear in New Mexico. The book is rather long, with about 2400 words, suitable for older kids.

This book is excellent. I am a senior in college graduating with a degree in elementary education, and I wrote a lesson plan last semester using this book. It is a wonderful book for 3rd to 4th grade children, as it helps them to develop their reading skills by identifying unknown words using the context of the story, and it also shows them an area of the world and a culture that is different from their own. In addition, the storyline is beautiful, about an honest man that would rather confess his wrongdoing than lie about it. He is a great model for honesty. The more times I read the book, the more I liked it!

INTRODUCTION We are sex addicts. Our addiction nearly destroyed our lives, but we found freedom through the recovery program of Sex Addicts Anonymous. In the fellowship of SAA, we discovered that we are not alone and that meeting regularly together to share experience, strength, and hope gives us the choice to live a new life. Our addictive sexual behavior was causing pain―to ourselves, our friends, and our loved ones. Our lives were out of control. We may have wanted to quit, making promises and many attempts to stop, yet we repeatedly failed to do so. For each of us, there came a moment of crisis. When we finally reached out for help, we found recovery through the program of SAA. We have found, through long and painful experience, that we are unable to achieve recovery from sexual addiction through our own efforts. Our program is based on the belief, confirmed by our experience, that a Power greater than ourselves can accomplish for us what we could not do alone. By surrendering our addiction to a Higher Power, we receive the gift of recovery, one day at a time. Sex Addicts Anonymous is a spiritual program based on the principles and traditions of Alcoholics Anonymous. Although we are not affiliated with AA or any other organization, we are deeply grateful to AA for making our recovery possible. Our primary purpose is to stop our addictive sexual behavior and to help others recover from sexual addiction. We find a new way of living through the SAA program, and carry our message to others seeking recovery. Membership is open to all who have a desire to stop addictive sexual behavior. There is no other requirement. Our fellowship is open to women and men, regardless of age, race, religion, ethnic background, marital status, or occupation. We welcome members of any sexual identity or orientation, whether they are gay, lesbian, straight, bisexual, or transgender. In our groups, there is a collective wisdom that has grown and been handed down over the years. We learn many new solutions to old problems. Central to these are the Twelve Steps, a spiritual program of recovery. Following these steps leads to freedom from addictive sexual behaviors and to the healing of our minds, bodies, spirits, relationships, and sexuality. Desperation brought us together. We found in each other what we could find nowhere else: people who knew the depth of our pain. Together we found hope and the care of a loving Higher Power.
