This book was honestly the best thing that has happened to me so far. I absolutely loved it, there were so many twists and turns and some shocking surprises. The way the author made me feel with how the book is written is just great. I got a sense of confusion, then I went to understanding what is going on, after that I went back to being confused with an added sense of mystery and but at the end I felt happy with what happened at the end. I started off not interested in this book, I actually had to read it for an assignment and if my professor had not told me about this book I would not have read it. After the third chapter I was hooked and ended up reading the whole thing in one sitting. The author makes the protagonist very mysterious and it made me want to know everything about her and the only way to do that was to keep reading. The author also finds a way to connect you to each of the characters emotionally because by the middle of the book I just wanted all the kids in the boarding school to be happy and find their doorway to their home. All the characters in this book are very intriguing and I wanted to know all of their backgrounds and where they came from. I am giving this book a five-star rating hoping that it motivates people to purchase the book because honestly, it’s a must have. Trust me you will not go wrong if you choose to buy it.

I read Every Heart A Doorway written by Seanan McGuire for my college English class. Since we are reading mainly fantasy, horror, or science fiction books, I was at first not excited to dive into a story that is not realistic. However, being that I am not a huge fan of the fantasy genre I was pleasantly entertained. To begin, I will say the plot of children leaving the reality of the real world to go elsewhere to be interesting. In addition, the involvement of murder, and fantasy added more entertainment to the story. I feel the different worlds that each student enters before coming back to the real world represents children growing up and becoming their own individuals. I also enjoyed McGuire’s involvement of including a different lenses by making the main character asexual. But I did feel the beginning of the book to be slow and boring. From chapters one to about five, I had to force myself to read the Every Heart A Doorway. However when the book finally begins to speed up after the first murder, I feel the book just ended too quickly. I kind of wished the final chapters were longer and filled with just as much detail as the beginning chapters. I understand that this book is apart of a series, but I was kind of bummed out when the book just ended. Overall I would recommend Every Heart A Doorway to a friend to read but I wish the story would have ended stronger.

I absolutely loved this book. Every Heart a Doorway tells the story of Nancy, who once found a portal to another world - and who, now that she's back in the world she came from, only wishes to return. It becomes clear that Nancy no longer fits into the world she came from, and in an effort to 'fix' her, Nancy's parents have sent her to Eleanor West’s Home for Wayward Children, a school for children who found their own magical worlds, only to have lost them just as Nancy lost hers.At this point in the story, I thought I had a pretty good grasp of what was going on and what was going to happen next... and then all my expectations were turned on their head as the story segued into a murder mystery which kept me reading until the very end.This book cleverly examines the 'children discover a portal to a magical world' trope, and deals with questions that are usually left unanswered by the trope: questions such as 'how do the children adapt when they're forced to leave their magical world?,' 'how do their families cope with a child changed by the experience?' and the biggest question of all - 'can these children ever find their way back to their magical worlds, once they find themselves back in their own world?'I would heartily recommend this book.

Every Heart A Doorway on the surface is a book that’s all about what happens to kids after they leave a magical world that appeared to them. Most movies or happy fairy tails never have the time to talk about what happened after the kids leave their world behind and go back to normal lives. The book does an excellent job of using less pages to really paint a detailed picture and tell the story at the same time. This feature alone keeps the reader interested on what will happen next and how the characters that they are introduced to will developed. I really never wanted to put this book down and I never like to read in the first place but the story kept me wanting to find out more new things about each individual character and the worlds they went to. This book always had me wanting to find out what would happen next and even now I would like to see the author make another book going farther into the new ideas that were introduced in the book. The hole book in general gave me a sense of reading a verily well thought out and complete story. I was very content with the amount of information it presented and I liked the ending even more. I would highly recommend reading this book to readers that enjoy something more mysterious and open to the new ideas that are introduced after a fairytale story

It was with great sadness that I learned of the passing of Professor Ira N. Levine last month (December 2015). I was among the first students in his debut class in quantum chemistry back in the late 1960's. We used the zeroth edition of this book as it was being written, delivered to the students - in mimeograph form - one chapter at a time by Prof. Levine. As a hobby, I've purchased and read subsequent editions over the years even though my professional career took me into engineering rather than theoretical chemistry.The book has remained at the pinnacle of QC texts for advanced undergraduate, graduate, and self-study use. This 7th edition is no exception. Here's why: (1) it covers the necessary background mathematics in an integrated, as-needed manner, (2) all topics are treated with an appropriate "goldilocks" degree of rigor, neither overly formalized nor overly simplified, (3) the text is supplemented by excellent - sometimes quite challenging - problem sets, (4) numerous footnotes to the literature are given throughout the book for students who want to chase down subtle points, and (5) modern topics in QC, such as computational electron-correlation and molecular dynamics methods, are fully discussed. Overall, the text is written with great clarity and precision.This is not a textbook of quantum physics generally, but of quantum chemistry specifically. There are the obligatory explanations about the counter-intuitive nature of quantum mechanics along with various historical digressions about the development of non-classical physics. But this is a chemistry book. And it's among the best.

Great price, but page 1 of chapter 1 is just ... not there. I’m worried there will be more missing pages. Get the hardcover if you can.

Levine's Quantum Chemistry is one of the best books to understand quantum chemistry. It provides a rigorous foundation for students pursuing a career in theoretical chemistry. Once a student finishes reading this book, he or she can quickly​ go to the more specialized books like Szabo and Ostlund's Modern Quantum Chemistry.

Book itself is excellent but when it arrived there was some pages wrinkled. Quality of the India Pearson printing is good but something happened during the delivery I believe, but because the price was amazingly low I'll endure. The other choice did cost over $200 which a bit too much for me.

I have gone through many books on quantum and this one is by far my favorite. The explanations are clear, derivations are concise, easy to follow and straightforward.

It uses quantum mechanics to explain the basis of chemistry. The math is typical of a book on this topic but it is explained one step at a time.

I wouldn't have been able to pass my P-chem class without this book, it was a life saver.

Terrific book for sophomore students in chemistry who are interested in theoretical work. Easy to catch up with and tons of fundamental knowledge to dig up.

Purchased the collection. Was not disappointed. Box set 1-3 (the full and entire Naruto story). Filled my bookshelf nicely!

This is perfect! It's in mint condition. The box closes with three bits of velcro on the side with Sasuke. The set comes with a Shinobi Mini-Guide and a two sided poster (which I kinda don't like because how do you decide which one to show). The box is REALLY tall (16.5 inches). The other dimensions are 10x5.5. The books are from right to left. If you love Naruto, this set is for you.

I love that these manga box sets are becoming more commonplace, especially for those series with 30+ volumes.Naruto box set #1 is a smart way to start your collection without breaking the bank. Volumes 1-27, or what anime fans know of as "Naruto," comes housed in a cardboard "bookshelf" carrier. The set has two shelves, that are relatively sturdy - having thicker material would have been nice, but the set is already a bit heavy - and also has a handy carrying handle on the top.The set also comes with a two sided poster and a cute shinobi guide, written as if you're an actual Academy student.My only complaint is that â…“ of the volumes came with tears in the top left corner of the spine. This was also an issue I saw with a few of the volumes in the Ouran box set, so I don't know if it's just one of those weird manufacturing errors that's difficult to avoid. I'm kind of fanatic about the condition of my books so I was miffed that roughly eight of my books were already imperfect, but I think most people wouldn't mind so long as they were in a new, readable condition, which all of the books were.

I watched the anime and was excited to see the manga series is available in box set. I loved the stories and can’t wait to read them in manga form. Naruto is an orphan boy who is misunderstood because of his nine tails spirit locked in him. He was lonely and sad at the beginning, but as his unselfish and heroic acts shows he gain more friends and respect as the story grew. Great story of teaching good morals and character.

I love how the quality of the box is made to be sturdy enough for travelling, specially the handle on the top and the velcro patch that holds the lid of the box. I think with proper handling this box will last a lifetime.But dents on the corner were found on this box when I received it. I just don’t know if this is from the shipping or from the factory. But it didn’t affect quality of the books inside. Everything was mint except for some scratches on some volumes.This box set actually has some parts wherein censorship were actually applied. Some parts that have Naruto’s harem no jutsu (sexy technique) are all just silhouette. Overall, I’m really happy I bought this.

The box arrived in great condition. All of the volumes are also in great condition. Couldn’t have asked for more! I’d recommend buying this if you love the manga and want to save money, because buying each volume individually is more expensive.

If your a manga fan, or just a fan of the Naruto anime and want to see where it all began. This is it. The collection is very nice. I was so happy when I finally got it in, just remember, its only part 1 of the 3 box sets.

Years ago I wanted to purchase this fine Box Set from Viz Media but it turned out that the item was out of stock. Fortunately Viz Media reprinted it, and that is how I could purchase it. It is obviously more convenient (in an economic context) to purchase this Box Set than to purchase Volume by Volume... I wish Viz Media reprints some day Dragon Ball's Box Sets.

It was a quick read (finished it in a few nights) that wasn't bloated with filler info and was easy enough for a non financial professional to understand. There was a good review on investing in traditional asset classes that was later compared/contrasted to P2P lending. I found the overview on the various P2P lending platforms in chapter 7 & 8 to be very helpful. I also liked the analysis of P2P lending as it applies to historical and current events. Highly recommend this book to anyone who is looking for a good primer on P2P investing.

This short book provided a great reviews of some investment strategies. It then provides more details on 7 p2p lending platforms.

I've known Stu Lustman for a while now, and he actually wrote a fine piece on the subject for a magazine I was publishing at the time - so yes, I can confirm: he's a good guy, knows this stuff inside out, and has been around (the space) since the early days, and so have I. Reading his "P2P Investing 101" has been a pleasure, as it brings me back to earth, and to those early days. It offers great and unbiased perspective (most of the others writing about this have something to sell, an ax to grind, or a certain color to give) on one of the great revolutions of the recent past in the business of lending. And what a ride it has been so far (10 yrs+). And while you're not going to find out a lot about that here, you are going to get a very nuanced and accessible overview of what we're talking about, why (or why not) you want to get involved today, how it compares to the other asset classes, and where to go to as a retail investor if you're ready to put money at work. 8 short chapters well laid out, finishing each one with a concise summary, pros and cons, and some action to take. Also, he's not afraid to say things as he believes it, like in: "Bonds do NOT pay us properly for our risk. Marketplace loans do and WE get to select the risks we want to take". In passing he talks about real estate options, the economic outlook and how it could impact the asset class, the different (7) platforms that retail can access today (very happy to see my friends at AHP being mentioned here - make sure to check them out, as they are awesome!), the tax implications (I suspect he will add a chapter soon to discuss the impact of the new tax bill that just passed?), and some strategies to start with.This is a very good and up to date primer on the subject. For anyone who is looking for an easy intro with do's and don't in p2p/online lending & investing, look no further. My 5 cents? Prefer real estate over small business over consumer lending. Be diversified, in asset class and in platform. And make sure to follow Stu through his blog and other platforms, as there is regular intel to grab for free.

As someone who is new to investing I found the book very informative. The book was a quick read and easy to follow. I'll definitely be following Stu's blog.

Very good map with lots of detail. GPS is a lot better for driving but the map is good for overview. Note that it is huge and therefor impossible to open up and fold back while in a car.

This map could be substantially improved with a detailed insert of the Paris-area highway inter-changes. For those of you planning to drive across the northern half of France, you will likely encounter the significant highways that intersect around and through Paris, including a series of tunnels and complicated inter-changes. This map may not help prepare or help get you through. Bonne chance!

If you're planning to rent a car in France, you need one of these. I like the fact that some of the more interesting towns have a rectangle around it.

Good, detailed, spill-proof map of all roads leading in and out of most towns. Some smaller towns in Provence not listed here, but I just purchased one of Michelin's more detailed maps for that region. The size of this map could cover a table, so not too easy to deal with in a small, European car, but definitely detailed.

I used this as a backup to a GPS while driving across France from the northern coast to the south coast, mainly on small country roads. Fantastic map.

A good old fashioned, open it up on your hotel desk map like when you were growing up. GPS is great, this is great too!

I wanted a very nice of France to remember where we visited.

Do you need to learn the best data viz design practices and need to learn them fast? Do you need to be inspired on how to build a framework to practice your design skills regularly so that your work keeps improving? Then this book is for you. Every chapter in this book is easy to read and packed with practical advice on how to communicate data insights effectively. Over the last decade or so there has been an explosion in publishingbooks on visualization of data. What does this book offer in a crowdedmarket that is different or better?If the title is puzzling, that is easy to explain. The book has grownout of a website (Amazon protocol forbids giving a URL, but Google worksas usual) featuring a weekly cycle. Datasets are posted, visualizationsare invited, and then discussed, and then round again. Here I focusentirely on the book as an independent publication. If that seemsunfair, or not what you seek, then please hope for other reviews. Ifyou are familiar already with the website, you are well placed to readthe book and write your own review. As I submit this, there is a commonAmazon phenomenon, some very brief ecstatic reviews lacking any detail.The book is free of precise internet references for the datasets used orthe graphics shown, so it does not seem that readers are stronglyexpected to make use of the website.The target readership appears to be mainly professionals in designfields, in early or mid-career, who already have as their main or solework preparing visualizations for others, either for colleagues or forexternal audiences. Such people are already presumed proficient inTableau or some other broadly similar software.Turn and turn about, there is no detail here on how to use any software,so how much would the book offer say users of spreadsheets, statistical,or scientific software? Not quite the same question: how much might itappeal to say students, researchers, or teachers in science or socialscience, or to those in business or government or other institutions?Such people may need to develop graphics for their data. Graphics isjust part of what they do, but sometimes a very important part. Theshort answer to both questions is not so much.Contrary to a suggestion on p.29, I cannot see that this is at allsuitable for beginners, as what is written presumes previousintroductions to visualization. Conversely, and this gets very odd,much of the writing seems based on the idea that readers learned littlein high school or university courses and are lacking in personal andsocial confidence. That seems to underlie numerous little motivationalriffs. Here is a sample:"if you want to be great, you need patience, dedication and practice"(p.30)"By taking your time, slowing down, and thinking through the analysis,you will create better work" (p.47)"Paying attention to all characteristics of the data you are workingwith and how it is presented is critical for success" (p.159)"Being great at anything does not come easy; the work you put in will beworth it, though" (p.190)"If you provide feedback to someone who has not asked for it, it ispossible that the recipient will find it offensive and might questionyour motive for providing feedback." (p.257)"What is important is that you continue to develop your communicationskills as well as your technical skills." (p.263)Advising against unsolicited feedback would rule out most useful Amazonreviews. What else to say? People and cultures are different. Sending inbug reports is part of good citizenship in many programming communities.Maintaining public errata pages is a sure sign showing that authors careabout correctness. Responding to specific criticism with silence orhostility indicates, but only after the fact, who did not deserve areviewer's time and effort.No doubt such advice is all sincere and well meant. But if you just wanta book on graphics, not yet another book on life skills or careerdevelopment, you will need to skim and skip such homilies, which you mayfind irritating or pointless.There is a great variety of graph examples in this book, variety insubject matter, simplicity and style. But to me the over-ridingimpression was of a jumble.The dual interest (see the subtitle) in visualization and analysis ofdata is unevenly supported. The centre of gravity here is much nearer toinformation or presentation graphics than to statistical or scientificgraphics. That is fine in broad terms, yet in detail the authors' stanceon statistical methods is curious and contradictory. They feel a need togive explanations of mean and median and to explain (twice over atpp.80ff, 92ff: why was that?) that averages calculated for coarsercategories from finer data usually need weighting. Yet slightly moreadvanced material (ordinal variable, p.100; R-square, p.121; 25% and 75%percentiles, p.123) is assumed familiar.Readers knowing some statistics need to watch out. Variance is sometimesused to mean variation, and sometimes deviation from mean, but not inits usual statistical sense. Significant is just a filler word, meaningperhaps major or striking, and also is not used in its usual technicalsense. Nor is parameter, although I don't understand what it does meanhere. Summarizing is used to mean summing or totaling, although that ispoor word choice. Skewed here means biased, and does not connoteskewness of distribution. Histogram is, to statistical people, notanother word for bar chart. Metric is employed as a catch-all for anyquantitative variable or summary.What did I like? There are many good examples of bar and line charts,but those should be familiar from early education. Less usually, dotplots showing distributions and Cleveland dot charts showing amounts arealso well exemplified. So are tile maps, in which each small area isrepresented by a tile of identical size and shape. More should have beenmade of cycle plots (one clear example on p.130).Two valuable tactics recur in examples. First, highlighting just oneseries or subset, with the rest as backdrop, usually in a subdued colorsuch as gray. Some good examples: pp.44, 81, 103, 142, 203, 204, 253.Second, contrasting two groups in colors such as orange and blue. Somegood examples: pp.111f, 202, 255, 292, 302, 349.In contrast, many of the graphs do not bear up well under criticalscrutiny. Here is a partial list of common problems.Graphs that may be impressive viewed on-line, but as reproduced in thebook are barely readable. Examples: pp.52, 180 (this on a page urgingthe importance of visibility!), 215, 275.Graphs or tables with categories in unhelpful alphabetical order.Howard Wainer parodied this choice long ago as Alabama First! Examples:pp.84ff, 93f, 166, 175, 248ff, 261f, 301, 303, 336, 354, 364, 396, 398,419.Axes that start at zero unnecessarily and so waste space. Examples:pp.150, 342.Graphs that cry out for logarithmic or other transformed scales. (Theyare not thought too technical for financial dailies or weeklies.)Examples: pp.20, 113f, 127f, 293, 359, 407, 416, 424f.Graphs needing but lacking a key or legend. Examples: pp.131ff, 310ff,324, 360, 390.Solid markers or point symbols (always circular blobs!). Open markerswork much better if there is overlap, and markers of different shapessuch as open circles and crosses do so too. If there is argument againstthis, we need to see it. Examples: pp. 39, 101, 275, 282, 330, 407, 416.Axes the wrong way round as compared with the statistical convention ofoutcome or response on the vertical axis. There can be good grounds forsubverting this convention, but I cannot see that they apply here to theexamples on pp.113 and 378.Misuse of circular and radial designs. Such designs can make much senseto show variation with (say) time of day, time of year, or mapdirection. None of the examples here (pp.222f, 354ff, 361f) convince inthat respect.Graphs marred by lack of proof-reading. The authors warn sternly of theneed to check for punctuation and other typos and to show units ofmeasurement. They should have heeded their own advice. Thus graphs ofcarbon dioxide and ozone on pp.120ff variously omit units; show raw databut state that the average is shown; show "CO2" and so don't use asubscript for 2 oxygen atoms; confuse ozone and carbon dioxide. Thereare many other typos or garbled expressions on graphs: a few are"entreprenurial", "consecuent", and this on p.307: "Now, the migrants tomove from their home regions to more distant."Lack of care extends to the writing and copy editing. One person'sinformality is another person's immature style, so you may love what Ido not. To my taste juvenile vocabulary was often overdone (amazing,awesome, fantastic, incredible), as was management and creativity jargon(deliverables, impactful, insightful, influencers, stakeholders,time-boxing, showcasing, Big Ass Numbers). There's a word for"numerically literate", namely numerate (p.190). "versus" is pressedinto service as a all-purpose preposition or even conjunction, meaningsometimes against (that is standard), sometimes since ("versus 2011"),and sometimes compared with. Incidentally, if you generally prefer"compared with" to "compared to", you will be mightily disappointed. Anopportunity to distinguish clearly between "unique" and "distinct" isfluffed on p.107ff.A bigger problem than these small slips, some of which could beconsidered a matter of taste, is repetition. Many points are spun out atlength or in several places. Giving full credit to others' prior work isrightly emphasised, but three times over (pp.182f, 209, 220).This book doesn't try to be academic or scholarly. Even so, the standardof referencing is still poor, including mere name and date referencessuch as Cleveland, Dunn, and Terpenning, 1978 (p.129) or Edward Tufte,1983 (p.163) and various references to internet sources without URLs. Itis good to see mentions of Tufte, but he really didn't inventslopegraphs (p.338): the name may be his, but the idea is much older.Disappointment is the best word for my general reaction. There was anopportunity here to do something excitingly fresh and original using thework that many people put into the website: to show interesting datasetsand then to discuss the pluses and minuses of competing or complementarydesigns. Instead, we have a book no better than any others and onemarred by hurry and mess. Even if you're in the authors' targetreadership, look elsewhere, such as at the books of Isabel Meirelles,Cole Nussbaumer Knaflic, Jorge Camões, Alberto Cairo, or Scott Berinato.

This book is packed with real-world case studies and practical career tips for Data Scientists. Moreover, the visualizations are so interesting that even people who are not in Data Science love browsing through my copy of the book. A must have for an Analytics Professional!

I started participating MM Jan 2018 and just can't say enough good things about the experience and how much it has helped me improve in the last year. So when Andy and Eva announced that they were writing a book, I knew I must buy it! It's very well structured and written. It has all the lessons that Andy and Eva write weekly in the reviews and much more, big topics and minor details that would make a world of difference.
