This is a very useful book for men. I relied heavily on this book for guidance in my Domestic Violence case. I had completely ignored my DV case and relied heavily on luck. And that was primarily due to lack of my knowledge and zero guidance from my lawyer. But this book taught me how to fight the case. It has some pretty advanced approaches to handle messed up scenarios.This book also covers the emotional aspect, which men usually ignore and as it turns out, is the most important thing in the fight to save one's dignity and money.I will recommend this book to each and every person out there trying to get the maintenance reduced. The effectiveness of the book becomes huge if one takes the maintenance cases seriously and puts in the effort from the start.Thanks Vivek for writing this book.

Yes, only 3 stars. I'm reviewing the book as a whole, not just the content. I give the content a 5, the writing a 4, and the physical print quality a 2. Here's why...Content is excellent. I've got the other books he wrote, they are very helpful and the amount of pain removed from my body makes it worth far more than I paid. About the only improvement I could suggest is more sketch overlays that indicate the area of focus, direction of motion, things like that. I sometimes have to re-read the text 4 or 5 times to try and figure out the motion implied in the photo or series of them. Sketch lines down the spine and arm or leg, little angle symbol or curved arrows help me to understand very well. I still give it a 5 because maybe I'm just a visual learner and need that kind of thing, maybe most people can just "get it" from the words.The writing style just isn't for me. It's not bad, it's conversational, and I get why. This is not a textbook. (I think the content could be re-written as a most excellent one.) Repetition bugs me. I know I need to re-read things to understand. Seeing the same phrases written out over and again may help some people, but doesn't make understanding any easier for me. The foreshadowing is excessive, to me, in the beginning. I read the table of contents, I can kinda tell what's coming later. If I had a nickel every time I see the phrase "later in this book you will learn" I'd maybe have a free book. :) Ok, not really true, but read it enough times and it gets annoying. So, 2 pretty minor things that bug me personally and probably nobody else. I give it a 4, you may give it a 5, but this review is simply my opinion.Now what I really don't like, (and the main reason for giving a 3-star overall), the print quality. Seriously, anybody that thinks light thin text on shiny paper is a good idea should not be publishing books. If the ink were a full black, the font a little thicker, or maybe just printed on regular paper it wouldn't be such a struggle. (And maybe it is a full black, but the shiny paper effect makes it look like a dim gray at best to me.) More light doesn't help since that just makes the shiny glow off the paper worse. The contrast is simply poor and I can't stand reading this book more than a few minutes at a time, which is really frustrating because the information is so valuable that I am compelled to suffer through it. It's really hard to read and I'm very disappointed about that. Even the orange-bownish text used on captions is substantial enough to be easier to read than the main text. The binding is nice, and overall it's a nice well-made book. I can't honestly go lower than a 2 on the quality because it is a quality product. There's a lot of good photos, and maybe that's the reason for the paper type. Let's say the physical book gets a 5, but the #$%^$ main text font gets a -1 million rating.EDIT: I'm going to try and upload a picture showing what I'm talking about, and I apologize if my camera isn't the greatest. This is a bit of page 48 and 49. Most pages are like 48 with that thin font. For some strange reason the first page or 2 of each section is like page 49, and it's much easier to read even still having a little glare from the paper. Nearly every heading is low contrast gray-on-white, or medium blue on light blue, etc, when there's perfectly readable black and white (or at least higher contrast color choices) nearby. Due to these font and color design choices I am constantly tilting the book to try and reduce glare, or leaning in and squinting to make out some low-contrast text, and in the end the eye-strain makes me want to throw the book at the wall. Maybe the facebook-generation has no visual issues with everything being low-contrast, (and maybe they can see in the dark for all I know), but it really ruins what would otherwise be a great book for me.

I do crossfit and Kelly has a pretty strong presence in the community. I honestly thought the book would be as useful as the similar books I had purchased and because it is geared for crossfit enthusiasts, would be overpriced just like everything in crossfit. I WAS WRONG. This book is great. First, let me tell you what it is not, it is not a simple book that will give you a handful of exercises to do every day so your neck and back pain disappear in a week. What this books does have... it has treatments to address specific problems. Even better, there are very detailed pictures that are high quality so you can see exactly what to do. Yes, no more strange stick figures that you are trying to figure out what part of their body corresponds to your body! Beyond that, there are explanations on the sensations you may feel while performing the movements and what that means about your anatomical problem. I did not get this book to learn about how bad sitting at a desk is for me, since my body was already shown me that with pain. However, it does address the causes of all your problems if you are interested in that. I got it for the treatments, which I like a lot. As an FYI, a lot of these exercises require accessories. If you do crossfit they are all at your box, and likely your house. If you do not do crossfit, you may have to shell out $30-$100 depending on how into this you want to get. However, the basic foam roller and lacrosse ball you can buy on amazon have uses far beyond this book (see Youtube)

I almost didn't buy this book because I don't work hours a day at a desk any more. But, after years of working on my posture, by using Kelly's instructions I am FINALLY straighter not only standing, but also in walking, sitting, and bending over. The "prescriptions" at the end of the book are already increasing my range of motion and lessening discomfort. My only complaint about this book is the print is very thin and gray on a shiny surface - very hard to read! Still, the content is so good, I couldn't justify giving it less than 5 stars.

(I’m writing this standing in a good position. )Running and having a sedentary job aren’t the best combination. I knew this- everybody does- but what to do about it, right? So I was sceptical about how much bad news this book would bring without being a game changer, because I’m not going to change jobs anytime soon. However, I badly underestimated how many adjustments I can make in my life to minimise the consequences of so much sitting. This book is chock full of helpful information and tips. As for the bad news, whoa. Sitting is so much worse than I thought. I’ve implemented a few easy changes already and working on some others. I intend to be healthy till a ripe old age if I have any say about it (and there is a lot of ripe old age in my family, only I suspect my grand parents led a much more active life than we do, and that’s why they are still healthy in their 90s) I just read Kelly Starret’s other book “Ready to run” and there is not a lot of overlap. Both are proving extremely valuable to me. Thank you Mr. Starett!!

I purchased the three-part set of Math, English and Practice tests. So, this is a review of the set. Why a three-star review? Actually, it should be a two and a half star. Here's my rub with this set. This set covers both lower level and upper level material and, except for the practice tests and some other very limited areas, it's not clearly identified what material is lower level and what material is upper level.So, if your student is going to an independent middle school and then high school, this set is good, except your student may find themselves covering upper level math when they should be focusing on the lower level math. Or, if your student is taking the upper level exam, they might find themselves wasting time on lower level math or vocabulary.I think a much better approach would be to have separate books for the lower level versus upper level.

The most helpful book to get my child 99% in SSAT. In my view, the strategy this book teaches can be applied not only in English, but also in any reading/comprehension of any subjects.

It's been hard for my son to study on this book. There are lots of remarks on the book, and answers been circled almost for every questions.

These books are great. They have a lot more practice than the other books out there. Even the vocabulary list is very useful. I would definitely recommend the ivy global books for anyone preparing for SSAT.

I hanged this calendar on my wall and within 2 weeks the hole ripped and entire calendar kept falling. I used the next month to see if it would happen again, and a week later it fell apart.

I am a therapist, LMSW, and often like to leave my patients with a positive quote for them to ponder on after their session. This calendar provides a good size image and large enough printed quotes - visible to me and my patients in my office.

I like the large numbers. The art is calming and pleasant.

Hackers and painters is a book written by Paul Graham who ran a startup in the 1990’s which was later sold to Yahoo. He is now running Y Combinator.Hackers and painters is a book which reads like a collection of random essays. The first few chapters is about the start of computing and about childhood while later chapters are about both starting a startup and socioeconomic policies. The last chapters are about programming languages where he strongly argues for lisp.Anyone so have read one of his essays know how well articulate Graham can be and the this book is no exception. The chapters themselves are really well written even though he sometimes argues unconvincingly.In the end I did not feel that this book was anything else than a collection of essays and while some are interesting, it does not save the entire book. A stronger focus and some narrative between the chapters would improve this book immensely.

Not to get too personal but Paul's essays speak to my soul. His blog is the first one i recommend for founders and one I keep going back to.Oh the chapter about nerds! oh my. Growing up a severe bookworm I always felt traditional schooling was the kid version of the shawshank redemption. Apparently I wasn't the only one.What this Paul fellow is doing with his ycombinator startup monopoly in Silicon Valley is fixing the inefficiencies of a broken school system and sharing the education on his blog and youtube.If you haven't seen Stanford CS -183b (his is lecture 3) it is a refreshing reminder of where the focus should be ~ learning how to create things people actually want not gaming and tricking the system with a bunch of hype.

Paul Graham's "Hackers and Painters" is a collection of separate articles from Paul. The articles are well written and funny, though I frequently did not agree with the content. Since one of the earlier articles was on censorship, I'd say... that was probably the intention :)The first article is triggered by Pauls growing up and asks why nerds are unpopular when you are younger. He explores memories of his childhood and tries to clarify them. He continues with a article after which the book is named. He explains that he has *some* education in painting and explores the similarity between hacking and painting.The next couple chapters are an attack to taboos in general. What can we say? Why can we say that? And he claims that hackers are more comfortable breaking taboos, breaking the rules.In the article "The road ahead" he is making predictions related to web-based server software, of which some are insightful (or were insightful). He claims that server-based software will be the future and the recent years have certainly shown that to be true.The next couple of articles relate to capitalism and I did disagree with a lot of the statements he made in here. Though, often his points are carefully crafts.. here I found them simplistic. It annoyed me and even thought about stop reading it. The well-written-ness made me continue though.The middle of the book contains an article about spam. This one doesn't fit well in the book and could have better left out, in my opinion.The last articles in the book relate to programming languages and were fun to read. Paul is a serious Lisp fan and tries to argue about programming languages in such a way that it always supports his chose of lisp. He does make a couple of good points.All in all, I've enjoyed reading "Hackers & Painters". Its an easy read with interesting strong opinions from Paul. I'd rate it between 3 and 4 stars, mainly because the amount of learning is not high. Though, I remember some articles got me laughing out loud, so decided to go for a 4. Worth reading if you like strong opinions relate to hacker cultures.

I've been reading his blog for ages, and am a somewhat obsessive reader of his website Hacker News.I recently decided to purchase and read Graham's book, "Hackers & Painters", to casually read through some of his favorite essays. This book is comprised of 15 of Graham's essays pulled from his blog, which he updates several times a year. The topics of his essays are diverse, but all represent a hacker's point of view.What makes this book worth reading is that you get inside of Paul Graham's mind. He has an amazingly clear writing style (one that I am extremely fond of), and is able to walk you through his thoughts and arguments in a clear manner.If you're at all interested in entrepreneurship, technology, or programming, I would give this book a read. It can be read casually in a day or so, and will make you think deeply about the topics discussed for weeks afterwards.

I enjoyed this book so much the first time I read it that I decided to get a copy for my friend.

This book is really good. This book is well written for the non computer literate person. I finished it in about 2 days. Paul is a awesome writer and I'm going to buy some more books of his! I'm going to read this book again. One last thing, the essays in this book are awesome!

tl;drI'm giving this 5 stars for the content in consideration of the authors.As for the Kindle format and O'Reilly's decision to not sell PDFs ZERO stars.Long story: I need to learn C# so decided this book would be good. Upon heading over to O'Reilly I discovered the uproar over their decision a few months ago to stop selling PDFs. WOW! - I some response to the uproar about them looking into providing PDFs as part of their Safari Subscription service - but as I couldn't find a link to purchase the PDF and I'm not interested in a $400 subscription I decided to try the Kindle version.I've got at least a hundred Kindle books in my library - all non-technical book - e.g. novels, non-fiction etc. I love the Kindle platform. But as I have discovered it has problems with technical books. The first problem is that it does not allow you to scroll pages. As a programmer you often need to see ON ONE SCREEN a section of code. Unfortunately, with Kindle (I'm using kindle on a mac) you can only see page n or page n+1. You cannot view the bottom half of page n and the top half of page n+1. For a general reading book this is not a problem. For studying code or long tables it is frustrating.Second problem is with cut and paste. Programmers often read parts of technical books and then copy some section of the code from the book and then paste it into their development environment (e.g vi / Vistual Studio / whatever). Unfortunately this simply does not work as expected.Here's an example line code as displayed in the Kindle reader:Task.Run (() => Console.WriteLine ("Foo"));Here's how it ends up pasted (either into a terminal window with vi running Visual Studio)Task.Run (() = > Console.WriteLine (" Foo"));Albahari, Joseph; Albahari, Ben. C# 7.0 in a Nutshell: The Definitive Reference (Kindle Locations 16438-16439). O'Reilly Media. Kindle Edition.Notice the additional line showing the author, title, etc. Now that is annoying but I can relatively easily delete that line and go about my work.The more insidious problem is the insertion of a space inserted between the "=" and the ">" characters (e.g. => vs. = >)This is a syntax error and causes this line of code to not compile and is not that easy to spot - especially when you are trying to learn a new language! You can imagine the *fun* that ensues when several or dozens or more lines end up with numerous syntax errors. You end up fixing bugs due to a broken copy/paste function ! (also notice the extra space character added before Foo - "Foo" vs " Foo" - while not a syntax error this could introduce a logic error - even worse and harder to debug than a syntax error)In conclusion, in my opinion, the Kindle format (at least as produced by O'Relly ?) is not a substitute for the PDF format for technical books.

This is a fantastic book, whether you're new to C# or are an experienced C# developer who wants to deepen your knowledge and understanding of the language and its core libraries. (Note that this book does assume a certain level of general programming experience). The writing style is clear, concise, and logical. The authors do a great job of illustrating each concept with relevant code snippets and examples. LINQPad, the freemium utility developed by the authors, is a very useful companion to the book (and is also quite impressive as a software achievement). For those who commented that the price of this edition is more expensive than previous editions, it's worth noting that this book clocks in at 1,035 pages. Hats off to the Albaharis for producing a phenomenal work of depth and breadth.

I was really enjoying this book, getting back up to speed on C# after 12 years, but every time I tried navigating with bookmarks or highlights my Kindle reader would freeze, then crash. Granted, my Kindle is a Fire, which is horrendously slow, but no other Kindle books I've read on it (MANY) have had any issues whatsoever. Amazon was kind enough to give me a refund (removing it from my library).==========Edit: So I purchased the print version for twice the price, I'm sure it will be worth it ;-)

Paddings between book center and text on pages are too small for such large book thickness,so it is almost not possible to open book enough widely for comfortable reading.

This is probably my favorite reference, I read it cover to cover and it makes perfect sense, and the information is incredibly useful. I constantly find myself referencing this book, which makes it very well worth its asking price.

I'm a proud Nicaraguan and I can appreciate the book for the information into our own Nicaraguan language. I found it funny, realistic and wonderfully truthful. It is missing a lot of other phrases that I grew up listening to and enjoying and actually still us but it does give you a chance to learn to speak and understand how the culture and the language in Nicaragua goes together. As a person who has friends from other countries and they at times do not understand my Nicaraguan spanish I will use this book as a guide to help them keep up with the conversation.

Amazing book! I used to live in Nicaragua (and had a beautiful Nicaraguan girlfriend before I moved there), so with many friends, stories, histories and memories there and a great love for the culture, I really appreciated this e-book. I definitely recognized some of the regional vocabulary words/sayings in there, and I even learned plenty of new ones! I could think of a few that were not mentioned, but hey, 200 or so entries is pretty darn good and it's hard to find anything about Nicaraguan Spanish, let alone this great book chock full of Nicaraguan idioms! I also like Jamison's witty commentaries filled with humor and profound insight as he remarks on the meanings of these words and sayings. This is my "Bible of Nicaraguan Spanish" - not bad for having been written by a gringo! Five stars, all the way!

LOVE, LOVE.LOVED this book. During the 13 yrs. that I spent in Nica. I had always thought that they needed a book of their 'dichos/palabras nicas'. This book is exactly what I had in mind. It really is a must read if you are planning a trip to Nicaagua and would like to understand 'their language'. For me it is helping me rem. the words that are unique to Nica. and it brings back many happy memory's every time I pick it up.

Purchased as a gift. They enjoyed this on their trip.

My Nicaraguan friends give this book a thumbs up. The words and expressions are spot on for what the locals speak.
