I got this for my 5 year old who loves snakes and it did not disappoint. The pictures are beautiful and we learned about snakes I didn't even know existed. I would definitely recommend this book.

This book was the perfect complement to our trip to the serpentarium. The pictures are extremely vivid and well done, and it offers a wealth of knowledge about each type of snake. It was a great gift for not only my Grandchildren, ages 7 and 5, but also for my adult son who never had an interest in snakes until the serpentarium visit and the subsequent Discovery Guide.

If you're looking for an in-depth, meticulously researched book for Bible study, homeschool studies/student research, this is a great book. If you want a coffee-table reader with big color pictures and briefer descriptions (like I was) then this is not your book. I was hoping for the later just to sate my curiosity, but this book is packed with more info than I bargained for. Not that I am disappointed. It's easy to read, but there's too much detail for what I wanted. For instance, they start out explaining how the Bible was written, what it was written on, when it was written, how many translations were written by different sects/tribes/scholars and then the different codec's they composed to translate the ancient Hebrew, etc....all good and well if you're trying to convince a die hard atheist who needs multi-level layers of proof. It's a very tedious read if you just want to see pictures. The black and white photos are terrible and do no justice. Still, a valuable tool for apologetics.

It is a good book overall but it did not have as much of the “pop” of excitement for which I was looking considering the subject matter. Also the authors spend too much time defending their positions, which isn’t necessary; from some aetheist who wrote a book in 2008 (trivial) to the James Ossuary. They should, in upcoming revised editions, just state their position and not devote whole chapters and appendix sections to defending it (unnecessary.) They should also print succeeding editions in color. Color would greatly improve the Biblical location photos and increase interest. Also, just as a “by the way,” the author spends too much time saying there are no red tides in Egypt, when I can literally just pull out my phone and pull up a picture of red tide in Egypt. Just water that part down for the next edition.

More Christians need to understand the evidence in Archaeology that supports the Bible's overall reliability and the specific people, places, and events, thereby denying the minimalist's and nihilists and the liberal speculators' presuppositional denial of the historical and supernatural events of a Sovereign God. In our fragmented society and culture where anything goes, and truth is denied by many, it is refreshing to see truth literally unearthed.This book will take you from the basics of how the reliability of the Bible can be reliably established and it's transmission verified from back in 400/200 BC to the present time. How can we defend our faith without knowing the facts, because this will allow us to clarify and enlighten those who go by hearsay and misguided "historical" TV programs. 1Peter 3:15 says, "Be ready to give reason for the hope that is in you ...." Dig in and be a light to others!

Full of good information about the Bible and Archaeology. The title has the word "Popular" in it and I can see why it is Popular. You can open this book to any page or chapter and immediately find the content to be interesting. Lots of great pictures and charts. This book should be read by everyone. It is a treasure full of helpful information. Archaeology can be dry, but not in this book. I love it. I had recently traveled to London for 2 weeks and visited the British Museum for 3 full days. It was wonderful to see the stuff from the Biblical world. This book helps document many of the items I saw in the museum. This is a great reference book that is fascinating to read.

This is a fairly in depth overview of archaeology of ancient sites that relate to the Bible. It has a Christian perspective, not a secular one. There is a good amount of evidence that the Bible is correct in much of the history it contains. While, not every detail of the biblical texts can be proven by what remains of the ancient world, there is a goodly amount to support the Orthodox Christian position.

This was a super way to look at the connection between the Bible period and its archaeological connection. A non-technical approach makes it accessable to any reader curious about the history of the times. It is thorough but not daunting.

Brilliant book, well-researched, includes maps, tables, pictures, and scriptural references. Prof. Holden outlines the geographical clues in the Scriptures that led to the discovery of the ruins of Sodom -- actually located in a huge mound north of the Dead Sea -- and shows the evidence of a powerful blast that incinerated the city at well over 2000 degrees Fahrenheit. He notes that nobody built on top of the ruins for some 700 years, and shows pictures of molten pottery that match samples taken from outside a little town in New Mexico, USA, called Los Alamos -- the first nuclear bomb test site.This book also compares various ancient Middle Eastern myths and Bible stories with archaeological evidence to determine what's realistic and what's not. He knocks down a number of skeptical arguments, but always with historical records and solid reasoning. This is not your granny's "faith-based science" -- this is the real McCoy. If you wanted to bring one extra-Biblical text to help demonstrate the historical value of the Scriptures, this would be it. It would be like bringing a cannon to a knife fight.

This book is amazing. It is very clear and easy to understand. We use it as a resource for a 7th grade apologetics course in our homeschool (along with an archaeology bible, more than a carpenter, and biblical atlas by Time which is neutral. My son is intrigued because of the writing style and can process the information and significance. This is also great for adults as there are many opportunities to dig further. I especially like that each section is then summarized in a chart. Great for studying, self-testing, creating handouts, or quizzing. I wouldn't hesitate to buy a workbook for this. This is written from the view of a believer which is what I was looking for. But I think the authors do a great job of presented the evidence and basing their arguments on evidence not just opinion. The reader can feel confident that they are gaining reliable knowledge. A really great purchase.

He developed methodologies for validating high-speed interfaces, such as PCI Express and Quick Path Interface (QPI). Hanqiao is now a signal integrity engineer with Intel Data Center Group. He is involved in mission-critical high-performance servers signal integrity design, bring up, validation and debug.Steve Krooswyk has been at Intel since 2003 when we joined as a signal integrity engineer for EPSD server development. In 2009, Steve transitioned into the signal integrity lead for PCI Express in Intel’s Enterprise Platform Technology Division (EPTD). In addition to server products, his experience includes involvement in the PCI Express 3.0 and 4.0 specifications. He holds a B.S. and M.S. in electrical engineering from the University of South Carolina.Jeffrey Ou joined Intel in 1999 as an analog design engineer in CMOS RF transceiver design. In 2006, Jeffrey transitioned to Xeon processor product design team in Server Development Group (SDG) developing a serial I/O module configurable for PCI Express and Quick Path Interface (QPI). Since then Jeffrey has been involved in several generations of Xeon products from design to post silicon validation. The content is good and practical because of Intel. but disappointed at authors because not much original material, most directly copied from internal design reviews or technical document. Hall and Heck's book is more worth buying.

This book is for beginners and experts as well. Excellent reference text and the best description is "straight to the point". This book removes rigorous math yet may still surprise you sometimes. Another important thing to point out is that this book covers techniques implemented in IEEE and other high speed channel standards such as ICN (Integrated Crosstalk Ratio) which you don't find in other texts. Granted, a lot of those techniques were contributed by Intel and fyi, the authors have Intel background. One of the most important things I find in judging the quality of a book is can it answer the question "why?" clearly to certain situations. This one does a great job at that in many areas and deserves a 5 star. Kudos and thanks to the authors.

I found the text of this book to be very useful. The authors gave actual examples of non ideal cases and their impacts. This is exactly what I was looking for. I liked the writing style and information presented. I gave this book 3 stars because I am extremely disappointed in the publishing. The book contains a lot of diagrams and graphs to illustrate points. However, the book was printed in black and white making these diagrams almost useless. Make sure the preview you look at is for the book not the kindle edition (which is in color). For a $100 book it should have been printed in color.

I always like a bit of backstory into the Wizarding World, but the book is short enough not to be tedious. I'm sure that people who LARP Quidditch will wear their texts out because you really do get solid Wiki description of how to play the game.Edition: I got the 2001 edition pictured here. The 2001 Comic Relief editions of the Hogwarts Library books have proved to be my favorite (along with Tales of Beedle and especially with Fantastic Beasts because the commentary goes missing in the 2012 box set). I know there is a 2012 edition of this book that is in the Hogwarts Library box set, but I've heard (have not witnessed) that the content is relatively the same. I think the deal with the hardcover 2012 edition is the cover looks different, more like a textbook and uniform with the other books, but I like my 2001 mismatched editions just fine.Happy Reading!

The book is very nice, I read the first few pages and was hooked. The illustrations are also very eyes-catching, found myself giggling while reading it too. Would recommend for any wizards and witches that are freshly new to Quidditch.

Was super excited for these lights, they were just what I was looking for to decorate the small pink tree in my girls room. Plugged them in and all the features and lights worked perfectly. Loved all the different ways you can make the lights flash and blink! But not even 24 hours later and the buttons on the remote no longer worked (which means none of the cool features worked anymore) and the lights that used to be in 4 different colors are now only showing up in 2 colors, the other 1/2 of the colors stopped working. I have tried unplugging and resetting them but i can still only get half the lights to work and no remote control which means I can't even turn them on and off. I have to unplug them to turn them off and when I plug them in, 30 sec later they turn themselves on....make that 1/2 on. Seems like a glitch.

Covers everything from how and where quidditch started, the broom games that contributed to the creation of quidditch, the history of all the balls, positions, prominent world teams, and why quidditch isn't as popular in the states similarly to soccer. Wonderful read. Highly recommend if you're a Harry Potter fan. Total nerdgasm.

I wanted Fantastic Beasts, but it's out of print until they release a new version in March. Ordered this and my super Harry Potter fan daughter was visibly unhappy when she opened it. However, on reading it the next day, she was super pleased and said it was much more interesting than she'd expected.

Perfect for Harry Potter fans who like reading backstories and plots. This is a lovely extension to the Wizarding World we know. My favorite chapter is on the different broom companies. It really explains some of the references made by characters in the book. Best of all, buying this will help orphans across the world. Even if you don't like this book after buying it, you will have helped a needy kid.

I enjoyed this book because I enjoy formal mathematics. This is not an applications book, but a formal study of the mathematics that underly algorithmic design and analysis. I'm no math wizard, and I found this book readable (but I had to take it very slowly). The course for which I bought the book only covered chapters 1 - 4 and glossed over the final 3 chapters, but I intend to read the rest over the summer between semesters because it's so well and thoroughly written. This book is *dense*. I had to re-read everything three times before I absorbed it all, but ultimately I've understood everything I've read. The hardest parts to understand were the formal "proofs by induction" on the lengths of strings and sets - and, as any math student knows, you can gloss over the proofs on the first reading. A lot of the formal definitions (finite automata, pushdown automata, Turing machines, context-free grammars, etc.) baffled me on the first reading, but after reviewing the examples and working through a few problems, I could go back, re-read the formal definition and understand it.My principal complaint with this book, and the only reason I gave this book a four-star review instead of five, is the same complaint I have with a lot of other textbooks - there are no answers for any of the problems (nor can I find a supplement or a study guide or any help anywhere). Given the nature of the problems themselves, it's impossible to verify your answers. This seems to be a trend in textbooks, and it's extremely frustrating. I plan to self-study the last half of the book in the next few months, but without a self-study guide, I'm pretty much out of luck if I can't solve a problem.

1)The book I got is having the headings in some other language along with English which isn't there in the original book.2)Also the size of the book is very small and the letter size in the book are very small which is not there in the original book.So I am not satisfied with this book.

Elements of the Theory of Computation, by Lewis and Papadimitriou, is something of a classic in the theory of computation. Of the many books I have used to teach the theory of computation, this is the one I have been most satisfied with. It covers all of the fundamental concepts one would expect in such a book (more on this below) but offers a bit more mathematical rigor than most other books I've seen on this topic. It also covers one topic that is rarely even mentioned in other textbooks: the composition of Turing machines.The book begins with a brief introduction to the relevant discrete mathematics (such as set theory and cardinality) and proof techniques, then introduces the concepts of finite automata, regular expressions, and regular languages, describing their interrelationships. It proceeds to context-free languages, pushdown automata, parse trees, pumping lemmas, Turing machines, undecidability, computational complexity, and the theory of NP-completeness. (These are all standard topics.) Along the way, Lewis and Papadimitriou also introduce random access Turing machines and recursive functions, and do a nice job of explaining the halting problem and how this translates into undecidable problems involving grammars, various questions about Turing machines, and even two-dimensional tiling problems. All of these topics are covered with an appropriate mix of formalism and intuition.Perhaps the feature I like best is the discussion of composing simple Turing machines to obtain more complex and interesting machines. The authors even introduce a convenient graphical notation for combining Turing machines and spell out specific rules for composition. While most authors are forced to immediately employ heuristics in reasoning about complex Turing machines (lest the notation become overwhelming), Lewis and Papadimitriou are able to keep the discussion more formal and structured by virtue of their Turing machine "schema". I believe this makes their arguments more rigorous and even easier to follow.This is clearly one of the best books on the theory of computation. However, be aware that there have been very significant changes from the first edition, which was lengthier and more thorough. I confess that I actually prefer the first edition, as it contains nice sections on logic and predicate calculus (which have been removed from the 2nd edition), and is a bit more formal (albeit with some fairly awful notation). The 2nd edition is definitely crisper, with much cleaner notation; it is clearly more student-friendly, which was presumably the aim of the new edition.If you wish to teach an introduction to theoretical computer science, or wish to learn it on your own, this would be a fine book to use. It's hard to go wrong with this classic.

I discuss the first edition- I havent read the updated version. People have strong opinions about this classic book. Many students have it forced upon them for a class and they absolutely despise it. But a small number of people like me loved it, in fact its still one of my favorite textbooks. I first learned automata and computation theory here (which explains some of my fondness for the book), and it seemed kind of dull and strange until about halfway through- at which point I realized it's all very cool and I subsequently poured over the entire book several times. To get through it you need to enjoy mathematics and careful, rigorous definitions and proofs- rather than viewing these things as pointless obscurantism or pedantic arrogance. Engineering students tend to find the book dense, boring, and too difficult. Some people are intimidated by the sheer volume of special notation used. But if you're inclined towards mathematics or theoretical work you'll appreciate the extra rigor and precision (compared to most computation theory books). There are a few rough spots in it (I admit the development of the Herbrand expansion theorem in the last chapter is a mess, and the coverage of parsing theory isn't great), and some of the terminology and approaches are a little nonstandard, but overall a great book that will give you the foundation to begin studying computational complexity theory, recursive function theory, or mathematical logic. Note that the second edition has removed the chapters on logic, and I've heard its watered down. If you want something a little harder and more pure-math oriented, try Martin Davis's Computability and Unsolvability.
